The DECIDE project has successfully developed the Fact-Checking Ambassadors Program, a new initiative aimed at strengthening media literacy, critical thinking, and civic resilience across Europe. The program was piloted during an event held from 10 to 12 October 2025 in Vilnius, bringing together participants committed to addressing the growing challenges of misinformation.

DECIDE Project Launches Fact-Checking Ambassadors Program to Strengthen Media Literacy Across Europe

The program provides a structured yet adaptable framework designed to equip participants with the skills needed to recognize, verify, and responsibly communicate accurate information. In today’s digital environment—where citizens are exposed to large volumes of online content, including increasingly sophisticated AI-generated material—the ability to assess information critically has become essential.

Participants explored the importance of fact-checking practices, including verifying information against credible primary sources. Assessing context, and clearly distinguishing between accurate, misleading, and unverified claims based on transparent evidence. Such practices are increasingly relevant in light of the potential impact of misinformation on democratic processes, public health, and societal trust.

The core vision of the Fact-Checking Ambassadors Program is to empower trusted members of local communities to act as reliable sources of verified information. By strengthening their capacity to detect and counter misinformation.

The program aims to contribute to more informed public discourse and more resilient communities across Europe.

The event provided participants with practical skills, innovative approaches, and opportunities to build a network of peers dedicated to promoting media literacy and safeguarding democratic values.

As a key outcome, two practical resources were developed: the  Fact-Checking Ambassadors Program Methodology  and Fact-Checking Toolkit.

The Fact-Checking Ambassadors Program is a concrete and scalable approach to enhancing civic resilience—supporting individuals and communities in navigating the complex information landscape. And making informed decisions based on verified facts.
